Similar to adware, spyware installs unwanted applications however it also monitors your web activity. Spyware usually presents itself as a toolbar or search bar from an unknown company. Rootkits

Rootkits allow an intruder to gain unrestricted access to your computer, its files, and your bandwidth. Rootkits have been used to steal account information, send spam, or for botnets which attack company networks. Rootkits are the hardest of all malware to remove because they are designed to stay hidden.
