LG XNOTE P2 Disassembly

March 11, 2008 by Jeremy Brock

This is a quick guide on how to disassembling a LG XNOTE P2 Laptop. This laptop uses four different screw diameters so make sure to note which screws go where. The frame assembly is attached to the LCD allowing you to take both out together. Make sure to remove all the plastic inserts (SD, PCMCIA, and Modem) before removing the motherboard.

Click on the thumbnail for a larger picture.

Step 1: Remove all screws from the bottom of the laptop. Afterwards remove the hard drive, memory, and wireless card. Make sure to remove the two small screws under the hard drive and battery.

Step 2: Use a small flat head screw driver to push the four keyboard latches back then lift up the keyboard and disconnect the keyboard flex cable.

Step 3: Remove the top five screws, leave the heat sink and cdrom screws in place.

Step 4: Use a spudger or flat head screw driver to open the plastic snaps along the perimeter of the case then remove the case.

Step 5: Remove Plastic LCD hinge covers by unscrewing the black screws on either side.

Step 6: Unscrew the frame assembly, disconnect the CMOS battery, disconnect the flex & LCD cables.

Step 7: Remove frame assembly. Lift up and out.

Step 8: Unscrew/Remove the Chipset/Video heat sink

Step 9: Unscrew/Remove Heat Sink

Step 10: Unscrew/Remove CDROM

Step 11: Disconnect speaker wires and remove speaker assembly

Step 12: Unscrew motherboard, then wiggle the motherboard out. (make sure you remove the PCMCIA, SD, and Modem plastic inserts)

Hi,
Read your description before disaasembly, most went well except the touchpad is no longer working, any suggestions please.
Gerry

Thank you very much for the description! The mechanical layout is exactly same as
on my LG P1 Express Dual and I used these instructions to replace the motherboard,
without ever having lifted the hood of any laptop before :-)

Thanks for sharing this valuable information, these really help to my laptop maintainance

My LG R500 won't display most of the time. I'm not sure if it's an LCD problem or my the GPU. There are times when it will turn on just fine but that is 1 to 100 luck whenever I turn it on. So, right now I decided not to use it. When I turn it on the display will have different colors of horizontal lines and the scree background is grayish or blackish. What could be the problem?

Mine too, has the same problem, I believe it's GPU.
Since NVIDIA 8600M has been know for defective. g84 and g86 parts

Still don't know if it can be replaced, notebook out of warranty, too bad. Spent a lot of money in this junk back in 2008.

Still works ok with external LCD, HDMI or VGA.

My R500 video is gone too, found a motherboard on ebay and replaced it thanks to this GREAT guide, but still no video, doesnt work with any external vga, hdmi either.
so its basically a paper wieght.

the video card is in two parts, on board chip with an attached sub-board by nvidia under the shared heatsink.

i cant seem to find a replacemnt for it..
anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks for a detailed information about this. Surely helps a lot.

Hi, do you have RAM upgrade instructions for an LG R405
Thanks,

Hi, do you have instructions on how to access the RAM under the keyboard for LAPTOP LG R405. I could only access the RAM under the laptop, but there is only one single slot for the RAM. I was thinking if the other slot is located beneath the keyboard.
I was a bit apprehensive in dis-assembling my LAPTOP due to un-availability of service manual / instructions on RAM Upgrade.

Thank you,

Hi, do you have any disassembly instructions or repair manual for an LG R405 laptop. Thanks...

very detailed and helpful service manual
I have LG R500 laptop and problem is that its speakers arent working properly, infact only the left one is making distracting sound, typical broken speaker sound. How can I replace this speaker with new one and/or can I attach speakers of more Power inside the area????

I have a LG LGW2 laptop. how do i dismantle it coz i need to clean the fan and heat sink.

Regards.

Hello,

you did a phantastic job - its the only Lg-Repair Treat i found in the hole Net!!!

Ive got the simular Notebook - and have one question:

The thin Cables which came out from the left and right side of the Display - where i must them pin on, please?

Regards Steve!

The two small wires in step 5? those are for the wireless antenna, the order doesn't matter.

PLEASE I WANT HOW DISSAMPLE MY LAPTOP AND HOW I CAN REPLACMENT PROCESSOR WITH ANOTHER COMPUTER AND IF YOU PLASE SEND MANUAL FOR THIS LAPTOP SORRY MY ENGLISH IS BOOR
THANK YOU MY DEAR
MOHAMED GABER

I don't have a manual, if you have an identical processor you should be able to swap it out, most laptops don't support a wide range of CPU upgrades due to heat and chipset constraints.
